The Odyssey of my life is very complicated because I guarantee no one would want to be in my shoes with my high-functioning autism. As an out of the closet autistic, I have shared with a lot of people my ability to communicate greatly through writing. The great benefit of this technique is not talking to people face-to-face. I’m rather comfortable with the approach because every time I speak to someone verbally, I often feel like I have to hide in a closet. That sort of feeling drags on and on, and unfortunately, the feeling is a long term feeling. And that feeling is a drug of depression (no, I don’t take any narcotics, it’s a metaphor). I always thought that depression sort of came along with my disability, like I was the only one out of a lot of peers who had a dark feeling of sadness. My illness is sort of chronic; it sort of comes back when Im not expecting it, even when I’m enjoying the company of friends. It stings to a point where I become an eccentric, not wanting to be around anybody. I dare not to shed a tear …
